Slumdog Millionaire

Watched this movie recently. Directed by Danny Boyle, it is based on the novel Q and A by Indian author Vikas Swarup. I really wish A.R Rahman gets the Oscar for music. And, what about the movie ? Does it really deserve an award? After watching the movie , somewhere deep down I felt, has Danny showed India in a bad light or something ? He thinks he has potrayed the real Inida in this movie ? Not sure..And, by the way, I don’t really understand one thing. Why on earth do we give so much of importance to the OSCAR award !!! Can anybody please explain ??!!

And not to forget the Suryanamaskara (once in the morning and once in the evening)

How to do these asanas ? I shall leave it to you to find it out. Here is a link which could be useful [http://www.a2zyoga.com/yoga-poses].Maybe all these names would sound like Greek and Latin to many of you who are hearing them for the first time and may be you have imagined a very convoluted posture against each of the asanas. But, frankly they are not ! It is just a matter of 21 days. Why 21 ? you might ask. Its coz, it takes 21 days to learn a good/ bad habit and also 21 days to get rid of a good / bad habit. It means, If you could do it conituously for 21 days, you would be able to do it for days after that with ease. But, doing it continuously for 21 days is something to do with your will power. Sounds difficult? nope it isn't.Try it out ! Hope you find it useful.

Need a better design ?!

I know, some day I will be a good driver. The other day when I was discussing about my driving skill with one of my friends, she consoled me saying, the more worse you drive , the more feminine you are ! :) . Luks like its a trait among most of the ladies out there, which is one thing which makes me smile whenever I think of my driving skill, as of now :)
Anyways, have you ever wondered why the design of the car is the way it is at present?. I am clueless as to why would any designer be so interested in confusing the end user. Just imagine, the way the entities like accelerator, brake and clutch are placed in the car. All these are just jumbled up around the same position. Have you not heard of incidents /accidents where people get confused between the accelerator and the brake and end up using the accelerator instead of the brakes ! Its a hazardous mistake, I know. At least to me, the positions of these entities appear in all possible permutational and combinational ways in my mind the moment I intend to use any one of them. Now, if probability, permutation and combination occur together, you can imagine the complexity !!. But, dont you feel that it is the resultant of a bad design?

If I were to design a car, I would definitely place these entities in three different positions which are not related to each other in any way OR may even go to the extent of not having so many entities !!! . I know am a telecom/mobile engineer and not a automobile engineer , but at the end of the day , a design is a design. Ultimately, It should be user friendly [for both men and women] and apparently the end user should use it without any confusion ! Wat say ?.... Anybody ready to place the orders ?? :D

X'mas & New Year Hungama

Thursday Thunder
Christmas and New Year Celebrations at office in our Business unit.

As a proactive member of the Fun club committee at office, I put across this blog.

Date: 20th Dec 2007
Venue: 4th Floor, CSI

The month of December marks the end of the current year which means bidding goodbye to the present year and moving on to the next year with all aspirations and dreams and also the most anticipated festival Christmas falls in this month. The Fun Club @ BU01 organized to celebrate this festival and solemnize the new year.

The jamboree was planned for 20th December as many members had planned vacation during Christmas. The Merry-making consisted of members dressing up in red and white color combination which are marked as the traditional Christmas colors, decorating the entire floor with baloons, flowers besides each one of us decorating individual cubicles based on a theme with prizes for the best decorated cubicles. The members were given their choice to choose the dissertation to put up on their cubicles. Together with this, all members of the floor exchanged gifts with Santa arriving just in time from North Pole to distribute gifts personally.

The enthusiasts started decorating the floor right at the strike of 8 on the clock.
A pair of red and white balloons were tied at each corner of all the cubicles. There were big and small stars dangling from the roofs along with the face masks of the santas, balls and balloons shimmering and sparling. The lustrous and glistening Christmas tree proudly stood proximal to the entrance after the members spent more than an hour to adorn it. The decoration of the floor was completed by around 9:30. We could see members coming into the office in their red and white costume and their spell-bound faces seeing the embellished floor.

The individual cubicles decorations started thereafter. There were people moving and jumping all around with the santa cap on their head and decorating every bit. They cubicles were awe-inspiring after the decorations along with well thought out themes on each of them. Some of the themes consisted of Chatpata Santa, No-smoking,Shimla cubicle,Great Inidan Casino,Kaka tea stall,Kavs Beauty shop,Green Earth, Calvin and hobbes,Flower-stall,Book-stall,Chocolate stall, fruits stall,Rose stall,Spider web,Eden Garden, cubicle lit with lamps, water painting and many more..

The members were contesting with each other and tirelessly working towards making their cubicle look more spectacular. It was announced that the judges would be coming at around 5:00 in the evening to judge the cubicles and announce the winners of the best decorated and the well thought out themes in the cubicles.

Rajat, who was the Santa Claus for the day , dressed in red and white , with his white beard and cushion tucked tummy did the needful activity of handing over the gift to each one of them. Finally all the gifts were shared amongst the members. Everybody's face was lit up with the new present they were holding. We could see people discussing their gifts and sharing their happiness and smiles around.

Finally, the judges Supreet and Meenakshi took a stroll down each cubicle and spoke to members. The judges seem to be mesmerized by the way each one had exerted towards making their cubicle look unconventional and exotic.
The judges seemed to be in real entanglement in deciding the winners as each looked better than the other.. like the way they say .. Ek se Badkar Ek kind. Finally after much deliberation, the winners were announced. The first prize was shared between Sunil C and Ruchi. Sunil had the theme of The Great Inidan Casino - Joint venture with THBS He had decked up his cubicle with wine bottles, playing cards and posters announcing the discount for playing games in his casinos and pictures of beautiful women playing games in his Casino etc. Ruchi had brought Shimla into her small cubicle. She had decorated her cubicle with loads of cotton to carry the effect of snow. Her cubicle also had the Shimla toy shop where she had placed her innumerable soft toys.

The second prize was shared between Pradeep B K and Gururaj P. Pradeep had come up with the Kaka Tea stall concept. He had coconut palms hanging from the roof top,a pump stove in his cubicle where he prepared tea. The other items that were available in his tea stall included beedis, biscuts, chocolate etc. He also played old Kannada songs to lift the mood of the visitors and the judges. A typical roadside tea stall effect was simulated. He served tea and biscuits for free to who ever visited his shop ! It was a Christmas offer at the Kaka Tea Stall !! Gururaj's was the Green Earth theme. He had kept Green plants around his cubicle and a well decorated small sized Christmas tree along with it. He mentioned 21 points that could be followed in our day today lives to prevent pollution. He insisted the members and judges to write in a small piece of paper as to what tips they have to prevent pollution. The Third prize winner was Adarsh Kumar for his innovative 'No-Smoking' Concept. He had a beautiful Skeleton hanging out in his cubicle made out of thermo coal which carried the danger notes of smoking

After announcing the winners the Judges shared their experience of being there and how much they have enjoyed the evening with us. The members by then were involved capturing all the merriment on camera.

We then relished the huge variety of fruits present in Raghu's cubicle (Eat good food was his concept. He embarked it by getting loads of fruits to the office). We also helped ourselves with the chats from chatpata santa ,chocolates, biscuits etc. Everybody was pleased to have made this occasion a memorable one in such a short notice and to have had a gala time with each other. With this we ended the fun and frolic for the day and set out for the Christmas and the onset of the new year !
